First Hawaiian Bank Receives Matching Grant Generating $1 million to Support Homeowners Impacted by the Maui Wildfires
Honolulu, April 16, 2024 - First Hawaiian Bank announced that it received a 3:1 matching grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines for its $250,000 donation to Hawaii Community Lending, generating a total of $1 million in relief funding for homeowners impacted by the Maui Wildfires.
“Rebuilding Lahaina will be a complex undertaking that needs to be done thoughtfully over time,” shared Bob Harrison, CEO, President, and Chairman of First Hawaiian Bank. “Through collaborative partnerships, the bank is proud to stand with and assist the community during this time of healing and renewal.”
The donation to Hawaii Community Lending, in partnership with Holomua Collective and Hawaii Community Foundation, will be used to provide Lahaina homeowners impacted by the fires with much-needed support to stabilize their mortgage payments and navigate insurance reimbursements while they work towards rebuilding. The donation is in addition to the nearly $1 million the bank has already provided through its philanthropic efforts supporting the Maui community.
“Within our mission to help keep all local working families in Hawaii by making sure they can afford to stay, we need to focus on helping to rebuild the lives of Lahaina residents as well as their community,” said Holomua Collective Board Chair Mike Pietsch. “FHB’s donation provides a new well of resources for the people of Lahaina.”
FHB looks forward to being a part of the effort to rebuild Lahaina Town and is committed to rebuilding its Lahaina Town location as soon as conditions permit. For information on branch locations and hours, visit locations.fhb.com.
